A study in contrast, this jacket brings together lustrous silk jacquard and softly structured wool in an asymmetric silhouette.
One side is woven with an intricate peony and bird motif. In Chinese visual culture, the peony has long been associated with prosperity and abundance, while birds can carry associations of joy and harmony. Rather than using the motifs as surface decoration, they are woven directly into the jacquard, creating a pattern that shifts subtly with the light.
The floral silk is set against a contrasting wool panel, balancing softness and lustre with a more structured texture. The asymmetric construction continues across the jacket, giving traditional motifs a distinctly contemporary expression.
A simple round neckline and metal pankou-inspired fastening complete the piece, while the dropped shoulders and relaxed silhouette keep it easy to wear.
